Early Times Report

Jammu, July 16: Much against the government assurance of timely redressal of grievances in J&K, the complaints filed by the people of Jammu are allegedly gathering dust here.
With this being the scene in the City of Temples, the plight elsewhere in Jammu region can only be imagined.
Official documents as accessed by the Early Times reveal that a shocking number of around 550 complaints as filed by the Jammuites from time to time are “gathering dust.”
Sources said the matter came to the notice of a senior official posted in the district during an official meeting held in the winter capital on July 14.
“The concerned officer apprised the Deputy Commissioner that there are around 550 grievances pending in different departments,” official documents as accessed by the Early Times reveal.
Sources said the Deputy Commissioner was taking department wise review of the grievances disposed of and those pending.
Sources said the Deputy Commissioner took serious note of the issue and instructed the officers “to gear up their men and machinery and work in synergy with other departments in order to ensure the redress of grievances in a time bound manner.”
When contacted a senior official confirmed about the grievances of Jammu district lying unattended.
He said the concerned officials have been directed to “redress the grievances within 15 days from the time of the up-dation.”
The official said the concerned have been emphasized upon daily disposal of the grievances in order to reduce pendency.
Pertinently, the power crises in Jammu this summer has been one of the biggest problems faced by the people, but till now “any respite is awaited.”
“Nobody listens to the woes of Jammu people and the power crises in the scorching heat this summer is the apt example because the government has duly endorsed the problem… But then, here even formal grievances are being left unattended for the last three years,” said a Jammuite.
