GDC Basohli celebrates National Mango Day

JAMMU, July 23: Under the aegis of "Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, the NSS unit of GDC Basohli celebrated "National Mango Day" on the theme: "Facts and Values of Mango" underneath the patronage of worthy principal of the college.
The function commenced with the lightening of the traditional lamp by Dr. Nidhi Kotwal, Principal, Dr. Shiv Kumar, NSS, Programme Officer and Dr. Papinder Bhagat. In his introductory address, Dr. Shiv Kumar, briefed about the various events of the day and highlighted the importance along with scientific facts of Magnifera indica (Mango).
He cited that research has shown that mango is beneficial against many diseases like diabetes, stress, cancer, inflammation and other infections. The college Principal shared her views on the occasion and highlighted the importance and utility of fruits, in particular, mango to full fill the growing need of the country.
Afterward, the function proceeded for various events like Poster presentation by the NSS volunteers followed by Mango plantation drive in the college campus. 16 NSS volunteers participated in poster presentation and demonstrated numerous facts and values of Mango. Muskan Modeel bagged the first position followed by Nandni and Palak Andotra at 2nd and 3rd position. Various varieties of Mango trees i.e. Amarpali, Dusheri and Chosa were planted in the college campus by the NSS volunteers and officials. A basket full of mangoes were served to the NSS volunteers as a refreshment.
