Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 23: Asserting that 'a spyware used against terrorists has been weaponised to deal with political opponents and dissenters', former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Friday alleged that BJP has taken a leaf out of how Britishers would suspect and treat Indians during the colonial era.
Mehbooba, who is the president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP, further alleged that the Government of India (GOI) has gone rogue and is brazenly subverting basic human rights.
The former chief minister was reacting to reports by the Wire that besides Delhi-based Kashmiri journalists, a prominent civil society activist critical of the official policy towards Jammu and Kashmir, over 25 people from Kashmir were selected as potential targets of surveillance between 2017 and mid-2019 by an as yet unidentified government agency that was also believed to be a client of the NSO Group of Israel.
"A spyware used against terrorists has been weaponised to deal with political opponents & dissenters. BJP has taken a leaf out of how Britishers would suspect & treat Indians during the colonial era. GOI has gone rogue & is brazenly subverting basic human rights," Ms Mehbooba wrote on blogging site twitter.
