Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 27: Property worth crores of rupees has been destroyed in a devastating fire incident in the down town Srinagar during the night intervening Monday and Tuesday.
An official of Fire and Emergency Department (F&ED) said that fire broke out at Palpora Noorbagh in the down town city late last night.
He said fire tenders from different parts of the city besides F&ED, Batmaloo, were rushed to the spot to control the leaping flames.
He said four single and a double storey houses besides four other structures and other household property were destroyed in the fire.
He said the cause of fire was being ascertained.
Meanwhile, Apni Party (AP) District President Srinagar Noor Mohammad Sheikh expressed deep shock over an overnight fire incident at Palpora-Noorbagh in which five residential houses along with two sheds were gutted down.
In a statement issued here, Sheikh said that such an incident has shattered the hopes of the fire affected families who need to be rehabilitated so that they face no further inconvenience.
“The district administration must disburse ex-gratia relief to the fire victim families on a prompt basis. Besides paying an adequate compensation, the concerned authorities must ensure that their proper rehabilitation is ensured at an earliest,” he demanded.
He also expressed deep solidarity with the fire victims in this hour of distress while assuring them of every possible help.
Sheikh also appealed to the people living in the congested areas of Srinagar to take requisite caution so that such ominous incidents are positively averted.
“Such incidents, besides causing immense damage to the property, at times proves fatal for precious human lives as well. The people need to act very carefully in this regard,” he observed.
