Heavy rainfall turns into nightmare for residents of Satyam Vihar Friends Colony | Encroachment of Nallahs, substandard blacktopping create havoc | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 28: The residents of Satyam Vihar of Friends Colony have been facing huge difficulty due to encroachment of nallah and use of substandard material in blacktopping as after heavy rainfall the water came out of nallah and washed away the newly blacktopped road at several points. The Satyam Vihar, which comes under the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Ward No 52, is being ignored in terms of planning of development. Although after a lot of efforts of the local residents, the blacktopping was done in the area after so many years, locals alleged that no proper procedure was adopted in blacktopping which was just done a week ago. "We had objected when blacktopping was being done that due procedure was not being adopted in its laying down and the work was done in hurry despite the fact that rainy season is on but nobody listened to us and as a result blacktopping washed away at many portions after rainfall," local residents alleged. They further alleged that encroachment of nallah has also become the main cause of the flood like situation in the area as nallah overflows whenever rainfalls, which entered into their houses, shops causing huge loss and there is no proper slope of road due to which water gets collected in low lying area. Nallah are not cleaned by the municipality as they find difficulty in cleaning nallah due to slabs on them, they alleged. "JMC authority should take action against encroachment of nallah so water gets its way during rainfall but it has been seen that authority has not taken any action despite open violation," they further informed. |
