National online plantation drive organized

Jammu, Aug 1: NSS Campus Units, University of Jammu and Office of the NSS Programme Coordinator, University of Jammu, Jammu, organized “National Online Plantation Drive” on the theme “ Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet ”.
The drive was open for all like NSS Volunteers, Students, Scholars, Teachers, Alumni and Parents of all age groups .The participants had to click the photograph while planting a sampling or plant and upload their clicked photograph for which an online form was created.
In all 452 participants, participated in National Online– Plantation Drive”, from different of Schools, Colleges, and Universities of both divisions of Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, H.P, Kerala, Gujarat, Madras Coimbatore, Tamil Naidu,, and Punjab. All the participants participated in the event with great enthusiasm and fervor. The E-Certificates were awarded to each participant for their participation in the event as a mark of appreciation.
Prof. Manoj K. Dhar ,Vice -Chancellor and Chairman NSS, University of Jammu appreciated the efforts of organizers in keeping students engaged in the time of Covid 19 and stated that a healthy environment is a key to a healthy and sustainable society .It is a foundation for a stable and productive society and to ensure the well-being of present and future generations, we all must organize and participate in such activities to protect and conserve, our natural resources.
The event was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Neeru Sharma, Chairperson NSS, Campus Units, and Dr. Anju Sharma Thappa, NSS Programme Coordinator, University of Jammu, Jammu. Prof. Neeru Sharma laid stressed upon the need for more such online competitions and said that due to the depletion of natural resources and the imbalance in the ecosystem, natural imbalance, we are facing several problems like global warming, various diseases, natural disasters, increased temperature etc. Students should take lead in creating awareness among the people from all walks of life to protect the environment in an effective manner for present as well as future generations to come.
Dr. Anju Sharma Thappa lauded the efforts of all the participants for the successful conduct of online event and stated that everyone must promote environment-friendly activities in their daily life to lead a Green Lifestyle. The event was coordinated by Dr. Meghna Dhar, NSS, Programme Officer , University of Jammu, Jammu with the technical support of Mr. Sahil Bains, Ms. Srishti Koul, and Gurdarshan ,NSS Volunteers, JU.
