Actors can’t stage dramas anymore | | | After the abrogation of Article 370, Kashmir centric politicians have lost their relevance. Their slogans have become outdated and worthless. Their rhetoric has no takers. People have realized that these leaders are actors and they cannot do anything except staging dramas. Soon after J&K’s special status was scrapped, these leaders made every attempt to instigate people and put Kashmir on fire but people didn’t react. These leaders were jailed but not a single protest was held anywhere to seek their release. After their detention ended, Kashmir centric leaders formed the so-called Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD). It comprised National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Conference and other smaller parties. The PC pulled out from the conglomerate soon after the District Development Council (DDC) elections ended. The PC accused the National Conference of backstabbing it by fielding proxy candidates. At present the PAGD exists only on papers as it stands disintegrated. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the Kashmir centric parties for an All Party Meeting in New Delhi in April this year, none of the Kashmir centric leaders except Mehbooba Mufti made any noise and in a way indicated that they are okay with the abrogation of Article 370. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, had shown magnanimity by extending an invitation to them. The PM had indicated that he wanted traditional politicians of Kashmir to become a part of “Naya Jammu and Kashmir” and play a constructive role. PM Modi indicated that he is ready to walk an extra mile but he made explicitly clear that rolling back revocation of Article 370— a temporary provision of Indian Constitution scrapped two years ago—and holding talks with Pakistan was out of the question. During the past two years the Centre has made it clear that J&K’s development is its priority but a few leaders like former J&K chief minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti are staill failing to understand that the clock cannot be reversed and there is no point in raking up such issues that have lost significance. The Kashmir problem has been settled once for all on August 5, 2019, by merging J&K completely with the Union of India and Pakistan is no stakeholder. If Kashmir centric leaders don’t understand the changed situation they will be construed as anti-national, anti-Kashmir, and have got separatist leanings. Kashmir centric leaders have been left with nothing to sell and if they don’t mend their ways they will become history soon. |
