World breastfeeding week starts at SMGS Hospital | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 2: For creating awareness about the importance of breast feeding amongst the general masses, celebration of World breastfeeding week was started at SMGS, Hospital, Jammu under the Patronage of Shashi Sudan Sharma Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu. The week is being jointly celebrated by Paediatrics & Gynae and Obst Departments of GMC Jammu from 1 August to 7 August. Dr Ghanshyam Saini, professor and Head, Department of Paediatrics, said that breastfeeding increases immunity of babies. He said it contains lot of Nutrients like Protein, Vitamins, Carbohydrates, Iron, Calcium, Fats and many other Nutrients which is good for babies & there is no alternative to breastfeeding. Dr Amita Gupta, HOD Gynae said that breastfeeding is important for babies for six months. "Infants who are not exclusively breastfed will have lower immunity and are prone to diarrhoea, pneumonia and other infectious diseases", she added. Slogan writing and poster making competition was also held during the program to show the importance of Breastfeeding. During the programme, Medical Suptd SMGS, faculty members, resident doctors and staff of Paediatric department and Gynae and Obst Departments were also present. |
