Anti-Graft Bodies Get Act Together | | | August 5 marks the second anniversary of the revocation of the Article 370 and bifurcation of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state into two union territories by the NDA government headed by the Prime Minister Nadrendra Modi. In the two years, a lot of change is discernible on the ground. One of the important changes which have taken place is the war against corruption. The corruption in a civilised society is unacceptable and as such the apex court of the country right observed that it is a disease like cancer, which if not detected in time, is sure to spread its malignancy among the polity of the country, leading to disastrous consequences. The top court underlined that liberty cannot last long unless the state is able to eradicate corruption from public life. It is in this endeavor that NDA government's decisions on 5 August 2019 has led to the anti-graft bodies getting their act together. They are no more toothless tigers as they used to be in the erstwhile State. Rather they have become very active and vibrant in the last two years. Almost every day, one comes to see that the ant-graft bodies take action against those involved in practices which threatened the civilized state and suffocated the people at large. These anti-corruption bodies are registering cases almost on regular basis and the offenders are being booked. Even the chargesheets are being presented on the regular basis in the cases, many of them registered several years ago. Also numerous cases that seem to be closed have been reopened and the people who have amassed wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income are being asked for accounts. Not only ACB is seen in action, the jurisdiction of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) stands extended to Jammu and Kashmir. People who used to believe that they can get away with anything are now feeling the heat. Elements with inclination to indulge in such practices are now finding themselves accountable. The pro-active approach of the ACB and other agencies is also giving sleepless nights to the people who had ignored the seriousness of the issue in the past. Even big fishes are feeling the heat in absence of political interference. Also the Enforcement Directorate has also taken keen interest in Jammu and Kashmir. Collectively, the work culture has changed with the same set of employees. No government employee can be complacent as there is no patronage anymore which they used to enjoy in the past. |
