Social Forestry Deptt targets to plant 1.80 lakh plants in Rajouri | DDC Chairman launches drive from Mankot Park | | Early Times Report RAJOURI, Aug 9: Department of Social Forestry has planned to plant 1.8 lakh trees this monsoon to enhance the green cover in Rajouri district by organising a series of plantation drives. Regional Director SF, Mohinder Kumar Gupta, while speaking during a plantation drive here at Mankot Park that the department would plant over 1.50 lakh plants of different varieties, while 20000 plants have been provided to the Army and paramilitary forces for carrying out plantation drives in their jurisdictions besides 10000 plants would be distributed among the general public for plantation on their land. The Regional Director asked the PRI members to identify suitable Government land in their jurisdictions for plantation, the plants for which would be provided by the Social Forestry Department. Earlier, in connection with the celebration of the 75th anniversary of India's Independence 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the District Development Council Chairman Rajouri, Naseem Liyaqat kick started a plantation drive in Tehsil Rajouri. The plantation drive was organised by the Social Forestry Department Rajouri. Among others present were BDC Chairperson Rajouri, Darbar Chowdhary; DFO SF, Rakesh Saraf; DFO Wildlife, Mushtaq; ExEn RDA, Maqbool Hussain besides PRI members, people from all sections of the society and officials of the Social Forestry Department were present on the occasion. The National Anthem was also sung during the event. In his address, the DDC Chairman emphasized on the need for realizing the importance of respecting and protecting green wealth and the rich flora for the future generations. The Chairman said that deforestation is worrying and the need of the hour is to bring more and more people together to grow and save forests for our present and future generations. The Chairman also said that the plantation drive takes things one step forward in improving the environment for good. He urged upon the common masses to come forward and join the movement and plant at least one sapling in their parks, terrace or verandah during happy occasions of their lives like birthdays and marriage anniversaries. The Chairman also urged the citizens to keep following the Covid Appropriate Behaviour to avoid the risk of infection and also take vaccines to stay safe from the deadly Coronavirus. |
