Jamaat fundraising: 4 Jammu districts under scanner | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 9: Even as the National Investigation Agency has tightened noose around the banned Jamaat-e-Islami through fresh raids across the Union territory, at least four districts of Jammu have also come under scanner for such “fundraising.” Sources said apart from districts in Kashmir like Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Anantnag, Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam, the Jammu province areas are also on the radar. It was reliably learnt that in the last two days, the NIA has conducted raids in Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, and Rajouri districts. The case was registered by NIA on February 5, 2021, in pursuance to the order from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs relating to “separatist and secessionist activities of JeI, an unlawful association under the UA(P) Act, even after its proscription on Feb 28, 2019. Official sources said the JEI used the pretext of charity to collect funds for sponsoring terror outfits like Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba. A probe by NIA, reveals that under the garb of collecting donations for welfare activities, JeI was using the same to fund terror. To blow off the lid of this terror funding racket, the NIA in its fresh offensive has raided around 60 locations in 14 districts across Jammu and Kashmir. That raids that started on Sunday morning at 6:00 AM continued Monday when the report when was being filed. It’s pertinent to mention that the Modi government has started a major offensive against the terror funding as a part of which numerous arrests and raids are being made across J&K. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have pledged to weed out terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir. The major crackdown on terror started even before the abrogation of the so called special status on August 5, 2019. In 2017, some of the top Hurriyat leaders were arrested and have been behind the bars since. |
