Rajouri Encounter: Cache of arms, ammunition recovered, cordon and search Op still on: J&K Police | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 10: Almost four days after the fierce gun battle between the security forces and a group of terrorists that triggered in Thannamandi area of Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday said that a large cache of arms and ammunition was seized from the encounter site and joint search operation is still in progress. In an official handout issued on Tuesday, police said that on August 6, information was received by Jammu and Kashmir Police about the presence of a group of terrorists in the general area of village Pangai. "A joint search operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police and during the search, the joint party came in close contact with terrorists who started firing upon the search party, which was retaliated effectively, in course of which two terrorists were successfully neutralised," read the handout. It further said that two AK 47 rifles with nine magazines and 232 rounds, four grenades, ammunition pouches, batteries, bandages, pills and other materials of day to day use were recovered from the site. A case under relevant sections was registered and investigation started. Subsequently, the handout read that one of the terrorists has been identified as Ramees Ahmad Tantray, son of Mohd Yusuf Tantray, of Ramnagri, Shopian, who had travelled to Pakistan on a valid Indian passport in February 2018 and was not known to have returned thereafter. Further verification of this is in process. The identity of the second terrorist is yet to be ascertained, it read. |
