Power Deptt fails to install transformer; people stage protest, demand AEE's transfer | | | Early Times Report SUNDERBANI, Aug 10: Outraged at the failure of Power Department to install a burnt transformer, residents of Thandapani and adjoining villages staged a massive protest here on Tuesday. Protesters blocked the Jammu-Poonch highway and accused the department of ignoring them. "Our pleas to get a new transformer installed have fallen flat on deaf ears. The Power Department has turned a blind eye towards our sufferings. We witness unscheduled power cuts and very low voltage," protesters said. They demanded that the concerned AEE Sunderbani should be transferred immediately as he is not interested in addressing the miseries of the people. People who participated in the protest included residents of the towns and villages, local traders Manjeet Singh, Ramesh Chander, panch Ravinder Kumar, Makhan Singh and others. Protesters raised slogans against AEE PDD Sunderbani, "Rajiv Koul hai hai." Some of them sat on dharna amidst sloganeering. "We are facing lot of hardships as it has been more than a week since the transformer in our developed a technical snag and was burnt," they added. The protesters claimed that they met AEE Sunderbani and he misbehaved with them. "We can't send the labourers to install the transformer due to COVID-19. First pay your bills then come here," locals quoted AEE as having said. Meanwhile, Naib tehsildar Thandapani Parshotam Singh rushed to the spot and assured the protesters that the transformer will be installed within 24-hours. |
