Defence porters hoists tri-colour at LoC in Machil sector | | | Early Times Report KUPWARA, Aug 16: Porters working with army personnel guarding the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector in the frontier district of Kupwara hoisted a national flag at 12000 foot atop Ringsar, defence sources said on Monday. They said 25 defence porters carried the Tri-colour from the base camp and hoisted at 12000 foot atop Ringsar on the LoC in the sector. This is an enormous effort by the Kashmiri youth, symbolizing patriotic zeal that has swept across the valley on the 75th Independence Day ((ID). A 100-feet tall national flag was on Sunday hoisted by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on the historic Hari Parbat in the summer capital, Srinagar on the occasion of 75th Independence Day. A similar 100-feet tall tricolour was installed at the world-famous ski resort of Gulmarg earlier this week as a part of the Independence Day celebration. Thousands of national flags were hoisted across the Kashmir valley on Sunday at educational institutions, courts, hospitals and other buildings. Slain Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani's father Muzaffar Wani also hoisted a national flag at a school in Tral in Pulwama in south Kashmir yesterday. Meanwhile, the historic Ganta Ghar in Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city, was lit up in tricolour since Saturday evening. The famous Clock Tower was illuminated in Tricolour by the city's municipal corporation. Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Junaid Azim Mattu was also seen dancing alongwith other people at Ganta Ghar yesterday. Several other prominent buildings in the city and other parts the valley, including Srinagar International Airport, have been illuminated to mark Independence Day. |
