Shocker: Babus reject Rs 5 Cr bills of PM’s package! | Affected in JK seek PMO, LG’s intervention | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 22: In a shocking development, officials have allegedly rejected bills worth around rupees five crores for execution of various public works under the prestigious Prime Minister’s Development Package or PMDP as funded by the central government in Jammu and Kashmir. Official sources said while the bills had been pending for the projects executed by the power development corporations of Jammu and Kashmir in their respective provinces, the rejection of the same has put the project executors to huge financial loses while the contractors have sought personal intervention of the Prime Minister’s office. Official sources said usually such bill should be cleared by the concerned departments in the Civil Secretariat including the Planning and Finance departments within the “stipulated period of around ten days.” “But due to administrative laziness the bills could be cleared in time and as a result of the same, the bills have rejected by default,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. He said it was “unfortunate that the administration had failed to evo ve a proper procedure even for the financial implementation of the prestigious project.” “There can be no project more prestigious than the one funded by the Prime Minister’s office and this is unfortunate that the officials have failed to take care of the same,” he added. Sources said the contractors have been doing the rounds of the offices of the concerned power sector departments in Jammu and Kashmir but to no avail. “No official is able to understand that due to rejection of the bills for the executed works , we have been put to financial burden as we are unable to clear our liabilities,” said a delegation of the contractors. They alleged that the “callousness of the concerned officials was pushing them to a suicide like situation.” “How can we meet out our financial ends even for two square meals a day when the government is not clearing our due and genuine payments,” the delegation said. When contacted an official said the matter would be looked into. Meanwhile the affected have appealed the Prime Minister’s Office and the Lieutenant governor to personally look into the matter. |
