AAP leader threatens to launch agitation for water metering
8/25/2021 10:52:13 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 25: Aam Adami Party (AAP) Vice-President Jammu-Poonch Parliament Constituency Rajesh Gupta condemned the metering of water connections in all the cities and major towns besides other semi urban and rural areas of J&K from April next year.
AAP leader urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to don't implement fully metering the electric connections in entire J&K and totally metering of domestic as well as commercial water connections. He said, "The water tariff in J&K has witnessed sharp hike in the rates during last three years from nearly Rs 1600 to Rs 2770 per year, this new tariff on drinking water is likely to exert much burden on the poor, lower middle class and the middle- class people from next financial year.
Rajesh Gupta warned a mass agitation if government will not take its decision back. The economic condition of the people of J&K has become pathetic due to interminable economic inertia. The people must be given respite under these disastrous circumstances.
Vice-President AAP repeated his demand to waive off water and electricity bills for next one year from March 2021 to till March 2022. I appeal the government to consider this matter seriously and declare a one-time fee waiver to the consumers in J&K," he said.
Gupta said that the government was duty bound to take initiatives for the welfare of the people, especially in a calamitous situation like the post-COVID era. "The people must be given respite under these disastrous circumstances. I appeal the government to consider this matter seriously and declare a one-time fee waiver to the consumers in J&K," he said.
