Mayor JMC visits flood affected areas of Gandhi Nagar

Jammu, Aug 25: Chander Mohan Gupta Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation along with Narinder Singh Jamwal Chairman Public Health & Sanitation Standing Committee JMC, Rahul Kumar Councillor of ward no.20 conducted an extensive tour in the different flood affected areas of extension Gandhi Nagar & Nanak Nagar.
Mayor met with the residents of the locality and took stock of the situation arisen due to blockage of the nallah flowing in the areas of Nanak Nagar towards extension Gandhi Nagar. Speaking on the occasion, Mayor told that this nallah which has been constructed since long by the ERA Department has been totally covered by laying pacca cemented slabs over it and no iron gratings or outlet at various junctions/spots has been kept by the department. He further told that field staff of Sanitation/ Transport section of JMC tried their best for clearing it but was not able to get it disilted properly due to its coverage from all the sides, it get blocked resulting overflowing of the nallah and entering the dirty water in the low lying residential area in the recent rainy season.
He told that JMC has already engaged its men & machinery from the last so many days on permanent basis under the supervision of concerned Chief Transport Officer for dismantling the covered slab as well as complete disilting the nallah on war footing so that water flows smoothly onward and there remains no chance of further stagnation of water in near future.
Besides this, he has also directed strictly to the concerned for identifying any type of encroachments done on the all the city nallahas and remove it strictly as well as disilting of nallahas to be done in whole of the year instead of three or four months in order to provide best possible relief to the citizens due to overflowing of the nallahas especially during rainy season. S. Harvinder Singh Chief Transport Officer, Sh. Rajinder Kumar I/c Sanitation Officer, Sh. Parshotham Kumar I/c Transport Officer and other supervisory staff of Health & Transport Section as well as prominent residents of the locality were also accompanied the mayor during the tour. He also appeal to the general public to cooperate with JMC & its allied agencies in all the development activities being undertaken in various parts of the city as well as in the drive which has been started by the JMC to remove illegal encroachments especially over the nallahas for proper disilting for the convenience of the citizens of Jammu & to save them from the wrath of floods during rainy season.
