| People anguish over sudden hike in electricity bills in Sunail Village | | |  Early Times Report
AKHNOOR, Sept 1: People expressed anger against Power Development Department Akhnoor alleging that the PDD have sent unusually high power bills with inaccurate meter readings. While speaking to media the people of ward number 8 village Sunail of Tehsil Akhnoor said that usually they were getting Rs 300- Rs 400 as average bills and they have paid bills of every month timely without any delay but suddenly in month of july they saw a sudden hike in electricity bills. The gathered people while addressing media said that in month of July the families got bill of 2200, 2900 and even one family got bill of 10,000 approx.
People level serious allegations on meter reader that he is not performing his duties fairly. They said those having two Air Conditioners are getting bills of Rs 400 where as poor people having two ceiling fans are given bills of thousands, they allege that meter reader is taking bribe from those people. People further informed when they approached concerning office they were not taken seriously and officials present there asked them that they have to pay the amount. People allege that even officials present in office of PDD Akhnoor were unable to give clear reason for such sudden hike in their electricity bill of July month.
People appealed Lieutenant Governor to intervene in the matter as they are poor people and they have timely paid all electricity bills monthly but this is clear injustice with them that without giving any justification PDD Akhnoor have given them such hefty bills which they are unable to pay. People also warned PDD Akhnoor that if department fails to resolve their issues timely they will cone on roads to protest against atrocities of department. |
