JPPM holds protest, demands holiday on Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday
9/6/2021 12:20:58 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Sept 5: Jammu Pradesh People’s Movement (JPPM) held a peaceful demonstration near the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh to demand justice to the Maharaja who said, “Justice is My Religion”.
JPPM wanted to highlight the demand of people of Jammu Division to declare 23rd September (Birth Anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh) as a holiday. People want to have a “Culture day” on 23rd September so that the pluralistic culture of Dogras can be celebrated and it will definitely play a vital role in remembering our history and our heroes.
This is not for the first time the demand has come to the fore but every year when 23rd September is nearing, the outcry of people intensifies but administration is adamant not to consider it.
JPPM supports the genuine demand of the people and wants to raise the voice of Jammu Division, JPPM feels that the administration is deliberately playing with the sentiments of the people. Why, Jammu Pradesh always ignored and our concerns always falling on deaf ears?
JPPM learned that there were plans to convert parts of our heritage site Mubarak Mandi into a commercial property to raise money. JPPM doesn’t support such a move and it will be considered an attack on the rich Dogra heritage.
JPPM requests the administration to answer the plea of the public and issue a statement so that we know where they stand on this matter. Injustice with Jammu Pradesh will not be tolerated anymore and JPPM will ensure that interests of all 10 districts of Jammu division are protected.
