Rousing reception to Rahul Gandhi: A warning signal for BJP in Jammu | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 9: Rousing reception accorded to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is a ‘warning’ signal for J&K BJP because for the first time after 2014, such a welcome was accorded to any Congress leader in the Jammu region. From Satwari Airport to Katra-the base camp of the holy shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi large number of peoples were seen standing on both sides of the road to welcome Rahul Gandhi. Although people were mobilized by local Congress leaders to mark their presence, it was the first time after 2014 that there was enthusiasm among those who were standing on both sides of the roads. Political analysts believed that Rahul’s visit is an indication of the revival of Congress in Jammu province where people are facing the worst-ever governance during the last some months due to the total failure of the system. There is a feeling among the people of Jammu that the administration is controlled by BJP and other Saffron groups. Political analysts observed that instead of blaming bureaucrats for prevailing chaos and rampant corruption in the system, the people of this part of the Union Territory believe that BJP and its off-shoots are responsible for betraying them. A senior Congress leader told The Early Times that they were not expecting such a reception of Rahul Gandhi in Jammu, which is considered as a citadel of the BJP. “Turnout of people in today’s reception is an indication that people are waiting for an opportunity to teach a lesson to those who are responsible for their compounding miseries”, he said. The Congress leader, who wished not to be quoted, said that the party will aggressively play the pro-Jammu card to counter BJP’s agenda. “We are nothing to lose in Jammu because already we faced the worst situation. Now we will slowly retrieve our lost ground because people are feeling betrayed and cheated by BJP”, he said. Important to mention here that after the worst ever the defeat of the party in the 2014 assembly elections when the Congress failed to win not even a single seat from Hindu majority constituencies the party workers were demoralized. |
