Srinagar, Sept 10: Train service between Baramulla in north Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu region remained suspended on Friday as a precautionary measure. No train will run on Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir and Baramulla in north today as a precautionary measure, official sources told UNI Friday. Similarly, no train will chug on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region on Friday, they added. Train service was suspended on September 2 following death of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani who breathed his last on September 1 night at Hyderpora house. The service was later restored after five days after situation remained peaceful in the valley. They said in the past railway property worth crores of rupees was damaged in violence in the valley. Train service has become very popular as it is cheap, fast, comfortable and safe against other modes of transport available in the valley. Majority people are preferring to travel by train from Srinagar to Banihal and later to Jammu by road.
