'Dispute hit' J&K boxing team cancelled for national participation | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 11: A day after a number of boxers accused Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Boxing Association of being 'selective' in trials, the participation of the 'dispute hit' team has been cancelled by the concerned authorities. Official sources here told UNI that the authorities while terming the matter 'disputed' have cancelled the participation of the senior team in the competition. UNI on Friday highlighted the issue after the agitating boxers raised the voice and blamed the association of being 'selective' in trials. The J&K men's team was scheduled to leave on Saturday to take part in the Senior National for Men slated to begin from September 14 at Bellary, Karnataka. "As the boxers alleged 'selective' approach in selection trials held on Friday at Maulana Azad Stadium, the six-member team finalized by the selectors amidst the presence of the J&K Sports Council officials, was cancelled," sources added. A number of boxers, who attended the selection trials, on Friday have alleged that they have been intentionally neglected despite participating in the trials. They also claimed that the association is planning to accommodate some boxers from the neighbouring state by neglecting the deserving from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The boxers had appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Singha, who is also President of J&K Sports Council for justice. |
