Political parties reviving their activities in Jammu and Kashmir is an indication that assembly elections could be on cards in the Union Territory.
According to the media reports New Delhi is keen on holding elections in J&K to counter Pakistan’s propaganda as the neigbouring country seems hell bent upon vitiating the peaceful atmosphere in the Union Territory.
There are reports that militant launch pads have once again started buzzing in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Taliban taking over power in Afghanistan has emboldened the terror bosses in the neighboring country.
After August 5, 2019—when the Centre scrapped J&K’s special status and divided it into two union territories—situation in J&K has changed completely. Militants have been on the run as the security forces have eliminated all the top militant commanders. Even the support of locals to the militants has declined. Security Forces are having an upper hand and normalcy has almost returned. Situation is well under control.
During the past two years many development projects have come up in J&K and people too are supporting all the initiatives of the Central Government.
Kashmir has not witnessed any strikes or stone pelting incidents during the past two years and people are carrying on with their daily chores without any disruptions. People sitting in Pakistan are finding it hard to digest the change that J&K is witnessing. They somehow want to set the Valley on fire again. Besides indulging in a vicious propaganda, the militant handlers are trying to push in more and more ultras into J&K but the robust counter infiltration grid along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border has been thwarting their nefarious designs.
During the past few weeks political parties in J&K have become more visible and it seems that they have received a signal from New Delhi that they should remain prepared for elections.
Political parties are demanding restoration of J&K’s statehood but they have not kept it as a pre-condition for their participation in the elections. The delimitation exercise is on and is likely to be completed within a few months. It appears that as soon as the assembly and parliamentary constituencies are redrawn, the elections will be announced in J&K and it’s evident that all the political parties will jump into the poll fray. Pakistan is unlikely to get any room to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir again as the time has changed as people want to live in peace and prosper.
