The pandemic has affected every industry but hospitality around the world has been rapidly responding to the changes taking place. Similarly, hospitality education has had to follow a unique and innovative pathway that was otherwise unimaginable, Hospitality education and training institutions have had to choose the online medium to continue the course work of students. Premier institutions chose the online medium as soon as the lockdown started in 2020 After the initial glitches. online teaching has become a way of life for both students and faculty. One could not allow education to take a back seat despite challenges thrown at us by the pandemic. Even practical lessons took place on the online platform. They worked out a way so that students do not lose out on education because of the pandemic. It is a matter of their lives and their careers.
While hospitality is a service-oriented industry. the nature is rapidly changing and the digital interface is increasingly becoming important. Technology is rapidly taking over many of the roles of humans in the hospitality sector starting from chat bots to online payments, virtual reality and other technology. While human interaction will still remain important to the hospitality industry, technological upgradation will have significant place.
Online teaching is the future of education that was sure to come someday The pandemic only expedited the process. Hospitality education has also come into the sphere of online education and it can also be conducted online with the help if visual demonstrations on the part of the educator The faculty of hospitality institutions must be well equipped to impart training online without physical interaction,
While the human touch always remains important, the digital Interface is a necessity in the present times. Technological advancements in the hospitality industry have proved that guest experience has been enhanced by their use. Hospitality graduates are now being trained with skills to engage guests with digital tools, enabling them to take advantage of tools like geo-targeting, social media platforms and virtual and augmented reality devices. While skills of operating and running a hotel or enterprise is required, Institutions are stressing on integrating technological knowledge with theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
In the present scenario, when students are spending more time on the virtual space than in physical classrooms, it is helping them develop their creativity, innovation and even their risk-taking mindset.
Premier institutes are insisting on integrating technology in their curriculum. Students are accustomed to digital learning methods. Many practical culinary lessons by master chefs as well as culinary experts are now being taken completely online. Students have also experienced in learning through master classes conducted by international chefs on the digital platform.
One of the most important aspects of hospitality training is developing soft skills. Soft skills are the most desired skills in today’s job market. They can be the differentiator between students with good hard ar technical skills. We are now living in an age where online interaction rules which makes it even more important for students to learn soft skills to handle customer needs better and providing comprehensive solutions. Many thinkers of the time are of the opinion that the post-pandemic world will put a lot of stress on soft skills. This means that hospitality professionals will need to be up skilled to meet the demands of the market.
