Educational institutions celebrate International Ozone Day

JAMMU, Sept 16: International Ozone Day was celebrated by various educational institutions across Jammu province.
Science Club of Government College for Women Udhampur in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology (DST) Udhampur organised one Day Workshop on the theme OZONE FOR LIFE to commemorate International Ozone Day on 16 September 2021.
In the morning session an online Poster making competition was held in which 28 participants sent their entries. The competition was adjudged by Dr. Kewal Kumar, Assistant Prof., Department of Botany, Paramjeet Singh, Prof., Department of Computer Application and Ms Tania Mahajan, Prof., Department of Zoology. Ist ,second and third positions were bagged by Khushi Sharma of Bsc Sem-II, Divya Srishti of Bsc Sem-IV and Neena Devi of BSc sem-IV respectively. Consolation prizes were awarded to Khushi Sharma of Sem-II, Manvi Sharma of Sem-VI, Sheetal Sharma of Sem-VI and Versha Devi of Sem-II. All winners were awarded cash prize and certificates.
The Botany Department of GDC R.S Pura under the patronage of Worthy Principal, Dr. G. S. Rakwal celebrated the World Ozone Day by organizing a Poster Making/Slogan Writing competition on the theme "Protocol - Keeping us, our food and vaccines cool". The entire event was supervised by Prof. Bindu Kumari, HOD Botany Department. The students participated in the competition with full enthusiasm and different posters and slogans on the given theme were made by them. A total of 25 students participated in the event. The event was coordinated by Prof. Sukhwinder Kaur and adjudged by Prof. Vishal Sharma. Gayatri Devi of Sem. IV was adjudged first and Prachi Bhagat of Sem. VI was given second Prize. The third prize was given to Richa Raina of Sem. II The principal of the college applauded the efforts of the faculty and the students for the successful completion of the event.
Eco-club of Government Degree College Thannamandi under the theme Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav observed the "WORLD OZONE DAY". This day is observed on September 16 every year to spread awareness among the people about the ozone layer depletion. It also aims at the various steps to be taken in order to preserve it. Thus, in order to aware the masses in general and the students in particular, the Eco-club of the college in collaboration with cultural and literary committee organised an extension lecture. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Naveen Sharma, Head Department of Environmental Sciences. Prof. Sharma terms at length about the need of the awareness regarding ozone depletion by extensively talking about the causes and Solutions to this global environmental problem. He also talked about the individual and national level efforts to combat this problem. The programme was conducted under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Javaid Ahmed Qazi Principal of the college.
Dept. of EVS of GDC Akhnoor in collaboration with NCC celebrate World Ozone Day under the aegis of "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" by conducting a webinar on the topic Ozone Layer and it protection under the supervision and able guidance of worthy Principal Dr. Namarta. Speaking on the occasion, the Principal appreciated the organizers of webinar and stressed that such events of utmost importance should be conducted in future for the benefit of the students and society. Prof. Shivani Sharma, HOD EVS was the resource person and discussed in detail about the ozone layer and its importance. About 100 students of EVS and 30 NCC cadets participated in this webinar.
Department of Environmental Sciences of GDC Bishnah celebrated International day for the preservation of ozone layer, on 16th Sept 2021 by organizing online poster making competition on the theme "Save Ozone Layer-Save Earth". This competition was organized under the guidance of Dr. Anuradha Pandoh, Principal GDC Bishnah. Among various participants from different colleges, Ashwani Singh from GDC Udhampur won 1st position; Sourav Kumar from GDC Bishnah clinched 2nd position whereas Tania Mehra from GDC Bishnah bagged 3rd position. This competition was judged by Prof. Rashmi Arya, Department of English, Prof. Ratika Sharma, Department of Physics, and Dr. Sheetu Raina, Department of Zoology from GDC Bishnah.
GDC Nagrota celebrated International Day for Preservation of Ozone on September 16 with this year's theme 'Montreal Protocol - Keeping us, our food, and vaccines cool.' The theme is selected for the year 2021 to highlight the long-term results of the 35-year-old protocol, the first ever to be ratified by all the 197 members of the United Nations. Students were encouraged to read about importance of ozone and share audio as well as video clips of the same. Students participated enthusiastically and shared updated information on ozone protection. Prof. Anjali Mahajan applauded the efforts of students and committee members. Prof. Aanchal Sharma and Prof. Harmeet Kour organised the activity.

GDC, Ukhral in collaboration with ISCA Jammu Chapter organized National Level "ONE DAY WEBINAR" On the Theme "OZONE DEPLETION : DISASTER IN MAKING" on 16th of September, the "International Day for Preservation of Ozone Layer"
The webinar was Inaugurated by Prof. Vijay Laxmi Saxena, General President, Indian Science Congress Association. She in her inaugural address congratulated PATRON of Webinar Dr. Ranvijay Singh, Principal GDC, Ukhral , Dr. J.S. Tara, Convener ISCA, Jammu Chapter and Coordinator of the Webinar Prof. Rakesh Singh, Associate Prof. GDC, Kathua and Life Member ISCA for making a coordinated effort by conducting a Webinar on such an important issue. She highlighted the importance of Ozone Layer for mankind and stressed upon taking collective initiatives for preservation of Ozone layer.
GDC Vijaypur today commemorates World Ozone Day 2021 to create awareness about protecting and conserving Ozone layer. The day is celebrated to spread awareness among people about the depletion of the Ozone Layer, unravelling its mystique and searching for possible solutions to preserve it as we all know how important the ozone layer is for all of us.
Prof. Poonam Kundan (Convener, Ecoclub and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences) coordinated the event and organized Poster making competition on the theme "Ozone Layer Protection: The Mission goes on" and Slogan writing competition on the theme "Ozone for Life". The purpose behind these themes was to aware students about the importance of Ozone layer viz-a-viz living organisms.
Government Degree College Dudu BasantGarh Organized an Online Inter -College poster making competition on Ozone layer depletion to commemorate World Ozone day under Shikshit Bharat. In this competition students from different colleges of Jammu Kashmir UT participated. Students make different posters and gave the message to the society about the depletion of ozone layer and suggested ways and means through posters to protect it by controlling different kinds of pollutions on earth. The Competition took place under the supervision and guidance of Worthy Principal GDC Dudu Basantgarh Dr. Bhavnaish Chand. On this occasion Principal of the college said that Ozone layer protects us from harmful UV radiation but due to human activities the ozone layer is getting depleted which could be very disastrous.
