GDC Chenani celebrates 67th national wildlife week | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 8: Government Degree College, Chenani under the aegis of IQAC, Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and its Science Club celebrated the 67th national wildlife week from 2nd-8th October under the theme “FORETS AND LIVELIHOODS: SUSTAINING PEOPLE AND PLANET”, with an aim to highlight the central role of forests, forest species, and ecosystems services in sustaining the livelihoods of hundreds of millions of people globally, and particularly of Indigenous and local communities with historical ties to forested and forest-adjacent areas. In this context, an essay writing and poster making competition was organized by the College on the theme. Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal of the College highlighted that wildlife week should be celebrated in every corner of the world each year and the awareness programmes specifically should be focused on the children and youth who are the future leaders of wildlife conservation. She said that wildlife week is celebrated throughout India every year from October 2 to 8 with a motto to protect and preserve the flora and fauna of India and aware the general public on the importance of wildlife. The event was organized by Dr. Nahila Sujad, Lecturer Zoology, and Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Rather, Lecturer Environmental Science of GDC Chenani.
