Kashmir valley receives seasons first snowfall, plains lashes with rain | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 11: The upper reaches of Kashmir valley experienced the season's first snowfall while the plains were lashed by rains on Monday resulting in drop in temperature. Meanwhile, Bandipora-Gurez road in north Kashmir was closed for vehicular traffic following the slippery conditions due to a fresh snowfall. Famous ski resort of Gulmarg, Affarwat and Kongdoori in north Kashmir received snowfall much to the delight of the tourists there. Affarwat received about 2 to 3 inches of snowfall a report from there said.L, Large number of tourists were seen occupying the cable car Gondola to reach the Kongdori to enjoy the snowfall. The higher reaches of Ladakh Union Territory (UT) also witnessed the season's first snowfall as the minimum temperatures dropped considerably. The Met Official said that snowfall was also reported in Picturesque of Sonamarg, Baltal on Amarnath route, Zojila Pass and other high reaches of the region. Srinagar and its adjoining areas received incessant rains since last evening water logged many areas of the city and uptown. Many people were seen in warm clothes as the temperature dipped considerably in Kashmir valley. Reports of rainfall were also received from several other district of the valley. In Srinagar the minimum temperature was 9.8 degrees Celsius, 6.7 in Pahalgam and 1.5 in Gulmarg, the Office said. He said weather is likely to improve in the afternoon as the Western Disturbance (WD) presently active over Jammu and Kashmir is moving North West, a MeT Department official said. |
