As Army pays tributes to 5 bravehearts, JK Govt celebrates Mushaira in same district | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 12: Even as the Indian Army on Tuesday held a solemn ceremony to pay rich tributes to the five fallen soldiers who laid down their lives during conduct of Counter Terrorist operation in general area Thanamandi on 11 October, the Jammu and Kashmir government hosted a multilingual Mushaira in the same district where the gunfight had taken place. As per an official handout from the Information department, a “Multilingual Mushaira was today organised by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (Rajouri- Poonch) in collaboration with Poonch Development Authority and District Administration here at historical Poonch Fort.” It’s to pertinent to mention that just a day before the Mushaira, four jawans and a Junior Commissioned Officer sacrificed their lives for the country in the same district. On October 12, it was the wreath laying ceremony. “Wreaths were laid by senior Army officers and civil dignitaries. The mortal remains of Junior Commissioned Officer and four soldiers belonging to different parts of the country will be moved to their respective hometowns. Indian Army salutes the sacrifices of its soldiers who laid down their lives in the service of the motherland,” a handout of the Indian Army said. A massive combing operation was launched in the Surankote-Shahadra belt on Sunday night but the search party came under heavy fire on Monday morning from the hiding militants, who may have infiltrated recently from the Line of Control in Poonch district. The deceased soldiers were identified as Naib Subedar Jaswinder Singh, Naik Mandeep Singh, Sepoy Gajjan Singh, all from Punjab; Sepoy Saraj Singh from Uttar Pradesh; and Sepoy Vaisakh H from Kerala. The Jammu and Kashmir government has come under severe criticism for continuing with various festivities despite a spike of killings in the region. Ironically on the day when two non-Muslim teachers were shot dead in Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Police launched its Jashne Dal, a mega water sports event that lasted for three days in Srinagar. Observers have been saying that the administration in Jammu and Kashmir was “more concentrated on holding festivals like that of music, dance and singing but that peace, prosperity, and safety of citizens was not on the priority list.” “How can you hold a colorful Mushaira in the same district, which is mourning the killing of brave soldiers, whose last rites are yet to be performed,” asked Jammuite. |
