Around 5000 devotees take holy dip on first day of Pushkar at Ganderbal | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 21: On the first day of the Pushkar mela around 5,000 people took a dip in the Jhelum river in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district today. The 12 day mela would conclude on December 2 and it is expected that people in huge numbers would take part in the mela and take the holy dip. Reports reaching here said that devotees drawn from different parts of the country took part on the inaugural day and carried out the religious obligation. People from states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and some other places turned up at Ganderbal and took part in the mela. The devotees started taking dip in the water in the morning at 6 AM and the same continued upto 3 PM. The devotees expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by the district administration especially the police department with the district police chief being on toes. They said that arrangements would have been better had the tourism department erected an adequate number of tents. |
