KVK promotes pecan nut farming | | | Early Times Report REASI, Nov 21: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) is promoting the scientific cultivation of pecan nut in Udhampur and Reasi districts. KVK Reasi scientists are providing the technical guidelines regarding the scientific cultivation of pecan nut to the farmers. According to Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Reasi, Dr Banarsi Lal keeping the nutritional and economic security in view, KVK, Reasi is endeavoring to enhance the income and employment among the farmers of the area by the new ventures in its concerned districts. He said that some pockets of both the districts have huge potential in pecan nut farming and farmers of these areas should come forward for its cultivation. He informed that pecan kernels are good source of nutritional value and are good for cardiovascular health, bone and teeth health, control blood sugar, reduce blood pressure, anti-cancerous and improve the immune system of the body. He informed that many farmers of the area are showing the keen interest in the pecan nut crop and are ready to adopt the technologies promoted by KVK Reasi. He added that KVK scientists are acquainting the farmers on weed and disease management, quality improvement and post-harvest technologies in the pecan nut crop. An innovative farmer of KVK Reasi, Yashwant Singh of Mir village of Pancheri block of Udhampur district is having a pecan nut orchard and is yielding good results of his pecan nut crop and motivating the other farmers of the area for its farming. |
