GDC Chenani celebrates World Fisheries Day | | | Early Times Report CHENANI, Nov 21: Govt Degree College (GDC) Chenani celebrated the World Fisheries Day-2021 today under the aegis of its Science Club, IQAC and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Dr Vipin Vyas, Prof & Head, Dept of Zoology and Applied Aquaculture, Barkatullah University, Bhopal was the Resource Person on the occasion. The main purpose of the programme was to acquaint the students about the fishing industry and its environmental issues. Dr Vyas dealt in detail on the theme and expressed that Indian fisheries and aquaculture is an important sector of food production providing nutritional security, besides livelihood support and gainful employment to more than 14 million people, and contributing to agricultural exports. Dr Pragya Khanna, Principal of the College maintained that fisheries and aquaculture remain an important source of food, nutrition, employment and income for millions, especially the rural populations. In fact, the sector provides livelihood to about 25 million fishers and fish farmers at the primary level and twice the number along the value chain. Fish being an affordable and rich source of animal protein, is one of the healthiest options to mitigate hunger and nutrient deficiency. The programme was organized and designed by Dr Nahila Sujad, Faculty in Zoology. |
