Cold wave continues unabated across Kashmir, Srinagar witnessed coldest night of season | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 22: Srinagar witnesses coldest night of the season as temperature dipped to minus 1.6 degree Celsius while as cold wave continues unabated across Kashmir valley and Ladakh Union Territories disrupting normal activities. Cold conditions continue to prevail in Kashmir valley as in Srinagar experienced the coldes night of the season with temperature further dipped to minus 1.6 degree Celsius against the minus 1.3 degree Celsius a day ago. Meterological Department office said, Weather is most likely to remain clold and dry till ending November across the Jammu and Kashmir. However, there is 40 to 50 percent chances of very light snowfall over far off north Kashmir on 25th November . They said overall there is no forecast of major weather changes during the coming two weeks. At Airforce stations of Drass the second coldest place in the world after saiberia, the temperature further dipped to minus 12.8 degree Celsius aginst the minus 12.0 degree Celsius recorded a day ago, and at Leh it was minus 10.8 against the minus 8.5 degree Celsius while at Kargil it was recorded as minus 5.8 degree Celsus on Monday. He said, tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir is the coldest place in the valley even night temperature showed an improvement was recorded at minus 3.7 degree Celsius against the minus 4.2 degree Celsius the previous day. Most small water bodies have frozen in Pahalgam due to freezing cold temperature. Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway was recorded minus 2.0 degree Celsius against the minus 2.2 degree Celsius recorded a day ago showing a slight improvement while at Kokernag it was recorded at minus 1.0 against 1.3 degree celsius previous day. Ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir was recorded the minimum temperature as minus 0.8 degree Celsius against the minus 1.4 degree Celsius yesterday. Although there was an improvement in the night temperature, but freezing cold condition remain there with thick fog making it difficult for the tourist to move around. In frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara the minimum temperature was recorded as minus 2.9 degree Celsius against the minus 3.0 degree celsius yesterday. |
