JAMMU, Nov 25: School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Jammu in collaboration with INTACH, Jammu Chapter organized a workshop on heritage tourism in Jammu. Deepika Sharma, Chief Operating Officer–Himayat J&K and Executive Director, MMJHS was the chief guest on the occasion. Prof. Deepak Raj Gupta, Director- SHTM, University of Jammu welcomed all the speakers and participants on behalf of the department and also talked about the importance of various heritage places of Jammu and their vital role in development of heritage tourism. Dr. S S Rissam, Additional Co-Convener, INTACH, Jammu Chapter gave a brief introduction of INTACH and the work they are doing to promote the cultural heritage of Jammu under the aegis of INTACH. Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas, Rector, Udhampur Campus and Faculty, SHTM, University of Jammu talked about the tangible heritage of Jammu and highlighted the importance of the same in the promotion of tourism. S M Sahni, Convener, INTACH (Jammu Chapter) addressed the participants and acquainted them with various initiatives and programmes run by INTACH to promote, conserve and preserve heritage tourism in Jammu. The chief guest on the occasion spoke upon the relevance and need of preserving the heritage and highlighted the role of social media in creating identity of heritage places. She also insisted upon the youth’s role in the development of the cultural heritage and urged them to bring the life into these heritages.
