Safe road networks in J&K will save lives, boost economy: Suri | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 27: "Killer roads of Jammu and Kashmir have taken several thousand lives in fatal road accidents over the years but all the previous governments, instead of building safe roads, rendered mere lip services and distributed tax payers' money amongst them to silence the voice of affected families, who lost their dear ones including bread earners and even children". Now that BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is laying emphasis on building massive highways in J&K, the roads will be safe and many precious lives will be saved, said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member, Raman Suri, adding that the 25 major National Highway projects worth Rs 11,721 crore involving 259 kilometer roads, highways and tunnels, that are coming up here, will not only boost economic activities but also help people travel safe and have access to the best amenities including healthcare facilities. He said that during NC, PDP and Congress regimes several fatal accidents, especially on hilly roads of Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Bhaderwah and even Poonch and Rajouri resulted in the death of several people but those sitting at the helm of affairs never bothered to build safe roads. Suri said the BJP government is committed to the welfare of people and such projects of national importance are not intended to benefit a particular region or constituency but is going to help each and every inhabitant of Jammu and Kashmir besides writing a new history of developments, peace and prosperity.
