11/27/2021 10:34:23 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 27: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Saturday sought compensation of Rs 4 Lakh each to be paid to the families of victims who died due to Covid-19.
Addressing a press conference here today, Mir said that on the directives and suggestions of Rahul Gandhi states which have Congress party governments and coalition governments with Congress have offered to contribute Rs 1 lakh per person out of the fixed Rs 4 lakh per person to the compensation amount. The Congress Chief urged the government to pay compensation to the families of every person who died to Covid, including those who passed away in hospitals or their homes, or on the way to hospitals, or those who passed away waiting for medical assistance which they did not receive.
He also said that JKPCC will take up the issue with Lt Governor of J&K Manoj Sinha via a Memorandum and appealed to the J&K administration to identify the number of Covid deaths that occurred in the UT and contribute to compensation fund as well.
He said that the government acted with extremely negligence and incompetence; and even after the end of first wave of the virus, the government was not prepared to cope with the second wave of the pandemic. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on the other hand had already warned of such possibility, however, the government continued to act with negligence and ignored all expert warnings. Government's mismanagement of the pandemic caused a lot of problems including shortage of oxygen, shortage of hospital beds and many people lost their lives as a result of not getting treatment. Mir also commented on the lack of actual and authentic statistics on deaths due to Covid and demanded that the Government firstly identify the correct figures and then accordingly issue compensations to the families of the deceased.
Along with Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Vice Presidents JKPCC and former Ministers Mula Ram and Raman Bhalla, Yogesh Sawhney General Secretary JKPCC, Balwan Singh ex-MLA General Secretary JKPCC, Th. Manmohan Singh General Secretary JKPCC, Rajnish Sharma Co-Treasurer JKPCC and others were present at the press conference.
