Govt PG College Rajouri celebrates National Mathematics Day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, Dec 23: The Department of Mathematics of Govt PG College Rajouri celebrated National Mathematics Day to mark 134th birth anniversary of great mathematician S Ramanujan here today. On this occasion, an intra-college symposium on the theme “Mathematics for better world” organized. Principal of College, Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina was Chief Guest on the occasion whereas Dr. Mohd Akhlaq, Head, Department of Mathematic coordinated the event. Prof. Raina who himself is a Mathematician, in his keynote address, lucidly explained the genius work of Ramanujan discovering some 3900 equations, summaries and results independently in his short life of just 33 years (22 December 1887 – 26April 1920). Dr. Raina said that Mathematics is a mother discipline and lauded the work of Ramanujan as one of the greatest mathematician of all times. He also emphasized upon the need for the promotion of mathematics at all levels which is more important than many disciplines in today’s life. Sofia Sultana of Semester, won first prize in symposium whereas Saber Hussain and Maiyda Kouser of same semester bagged 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. Prof. Abdul Karim, Head, Department of Computer Science, Dr. Mohd Sajar, Head, Department of Persian and Prof. Sankait Gupta from Department of Computer Science adjudged the competition. Earlier, Dr. Mohd Akhlaq introduced the audience about the programme and welcomed the audience. Sajjad Mahmood of Semester 3rd conducted the proceedings of the programme whereas Prof. Khalid Hussain Bhatti from Department of Mathematics presented the formal vote of thanks. |
