LG Sinha says JK will be militancy free in 2-yrs, former Army Chief rebuffs claim | Contradiction | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 23: Recently Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha claimed that there will be no militancy in Kashmir after two years, but the former Army Chief Gen (retd) N C Vij has contradicted LG’s statement by stating that it will take eight to ten years for militancy to end in Kashmir. While addressing a gathering in Jammu recently, LG Sinha said, “Let me assure you that there will be no militancy in Jammu and Kashmir after two years. The Government of India is working in this direction.” “Some elements are trying to keep the militancy alive but I assure you all that there will be no militancy in JK after two years,” he added. Meanwhile, former Army chief Gen (retd) N C Vij in his book “The Kashmir Conundrum: The Quest for Peace in a Troubled Land” in which he has tried to give a complete picture has written: ”Militancy in the region is not likely to disappear in a hurry. It may take eight to ten years, but the intensity is likely to decrease over time, as Pakistan’s ability to create mischief will also reduce,” writes Vij, who is from Jammu and Kashmir. He also writes that Pakistan has been reduced to a hopeless situation by India and it has become quite clear that the country is no match for India in any field, whether diplomatically, economically or militarily. “The Kashmiris’ dependence on Pakistan was perhaps a big mistake for which they have paid the price. Indeed, their desire to join Pakistan or become independent has become a lost hope,” he said. |
