GDC Ramgarh organizes seminar on ‘Role of Mathematics’

SAMBA, Dec 23: Govt Degree College (GDC) Ramgarh organized a seminar on ‘Role of Mathematics’ today to commemorate National Mathematics Day.
The seminar was organized under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol, Principal of the College. The objective of the seminar was to popularize the subject among students, emphasize its importance and to make them aware of the trends in Mathematics.
The progranmme was initiated by Sahil Sharma, Department of Mathematics. In the key note address, Principal of the College Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol, said that Mathematics is a significant tool. A career in Mathematics today has a lot of more options.
After the inaugural ceremony, an Inter-college competition was held in which students from different colleges of Jammu province took part. The first prize was clinched by Komal Vaid, GCW Parade Ground, Jammu; second prize was bagged by Ritika Manhas, GDC Ramgarh; third prize went to Satiwinder Koushal, GDC Bishnah and consolation prize to Susheel Panotra, GDC Vijaypur. The students effectively discussed the topic in detail.
In the second session resource persons deliberated on the topic. Dr. Sushma Chib, Associate Professor Mathematics, GCW Parade, Jammu enlightened that Ramanujan prize is given internationally to young mathematicians under the age of 45 for breaking new grounds in the field. Prof. Anita Sharma, Associate Professor Mathematics, GCW Parade Ground, Jammu said that Mathematics is a wonderful subject. It plays a significant role in the lives of individuals, society and world as a whole.
Dr. Shittal Sharma, Assistant Professor Mathematics, GDC Vijaypur, emphasized on the role of Mathematics in today’s scenario and its wide applications.
In the valedictory function, after prize distribution formal vote of thanks was given by Prof. Seema Sharrma, Associate Professor, Education. The technical aspects for the seminar were arranged by Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Assistant Professor, Statistics. The event was compeered by Abhi, a student of Semester.
