People of Sub Division Uri seeks inclusion in ST category, stages protest | | | Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, Dec 31: People belonging to the Pahari community from Sub Division Uri today demanded their inclusion in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category while alleging that the successive Governments have ignored their decade-old demand. Scores of people under the banner of All J&K Pahari Cultural and Welfare Forum (JKPCWF), Uri appeared in the main market Uri and were seen raising slogans in favour of their demand which they said has remained unfulfilled for a long. Mehtab Ahmad Sheikh member of the Pahari community said that they have been raising their demand of including their community in the ST category. “However he said that, almost 82% Phari of Sub Division Uri have been ignored, pushed around and discriminated, adding ST is our right and should be extended to us as we will live in far-off and backward areas,” he added. Ex Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Syed Rafiq Shah,Abdul Majeed Zinda Dil, BDC, and Sarpanchs also remain present during the protest. Another protestor Bashir Ahmad said that, from past several months, we have been pressing for our demands, so for they have not been fulfilled and time and again we want to remind the government that, we are fighting for our legal rights. "We are underprivileged sections of this society, we are deprived of our basic rights, but we fail to understand that, why injustice is being done with a particular section of this society," said a protestor. A group of protestors informed ET that, they want to make it clear to those people who are at the helm of affairs, that Phari community should be included in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category as early as possible, otherwise we will understand that we are not part and parcel of J&K. |
