NSS Unit GDC Kathua conclude one month Long Clean-India Campaign

Jammu, Dec 31: Under the ministry of youth affairs and sports, Govt. of India and NSS regional directorate of New Delhi, the NSS unit of Government Degree College (GDC), Kathua started one-month-long "Clean India Campaign" w.e.f 1st December- 31st December 2021.
On a concluding day volunteers organized a cleanliness drive at Taraf Sanji, the surrounding village of NSS adopted village Bhagthali.
Under this Campaign today NSS volunteers conducted a Swachhata Abhiyaan to say Bye-Bye to Plastic and polythene under the #Clean India Campaign. The activity was done under the banner of 'Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav'.
The NSS volunteers gathered in the village and started door to door campaign. In the campaign, volunteers interacted with the villagers and appealed to them to say no to Single-use Plastic and polythene and use jute bags instead of polythene. Volunteers also appealed to them to prepare to compose pit near their houses and fields to put all the bio degradable waste material in the compose pit and later on use it as an organic manure for their kitchen gardens and other lands for good crop production.
Further volunteers also explained to them how to separate other nonbiodegradable waste and its proper disposal off.
Volunteers also collected scattered waste materials from the village in the form of plastic and Polythene and dispose off them in a proper place. In this one month, long Clean India campaign NSS units organized a number of activities. The volunteers also made them aware of the consequences of using plastic and its effects on the environment and health.
Prof. Raj Kiran Principal, GDC KATHUA applauded the untiring efforts of the NSS team and Volunteers.
The locals also appreciated the efforts of NSS team and Volunteers and also participated along with volunteers in binning plastic.
They also promised to stay away from plastic in the future. The activity was performed under the supervision of NSS program Officers Prof. Manmohan Singh, Prof. Ritu Kumar Sharma, and Prof. Neha Bandral.
