2021: Tough year for Jammu
12/31/2021 10:02:19 PM
The year 2021 has come to an end. It has been a tough year for the people of Jammu as the administration stifled the nationalist voices in the region and has taken such decisions which have hit the people hard.
The J&K administration scrapped the 179-year old Darbar Move practice without taking the people of Jammu on board. The decision triggered resentment in the region as it crippled the economy. In the winter hundreds of people used to reach Jammu from Kashmir with Darbar but this year not many people have come. The arrival of people from the Valley used to add to footfall and enhance the business across the entire region. More than anything the Darbar Move practice kept the people of Jammu connected with the people of Kashmir.
On the other hand the business witnessed a tremendous slump as everything slowed down. The mining contracts being awarded to outsiders led to natives getting deprived of the work and business.
The year 2021 will be remembered as a period of despair and hopelessness because during this year the genuine voice of the residents of Jammu was not heard.
The bureaucrats acting like monarchs led to Jammu observing a bandh against the anti-people policies of the present dispensation. Most of the decisions taken during the past two years have been unilateral as people have been just informed about the moves of the government.
Maharajas, who ruled J&K till 1947, protected the rights of J&K people. The laws enacted by them were people friendly and their grievance redressal system was better than the system of the present rulers. The present regime needs to take a cue from how Maharajas ruled Jammu and Kashmir.
People of Jammu are paying a heavy price for the experiments being conducted by the present set of rulers. They should stop experimenting and reach out to people. They are unaware about the ground situation.
The year 2021 has ended and the New Year has commenced. People of Jammu are hoping that the year 2022 will bring happiness and prosperity. They are also hoping that the elections will be held and the popular government will replace the ongoing bureaucratic rule in which no one is being heard and anyone who tries to raise the voice is cut to the size.
