MeT predicts light rain, snowfall in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 31: The Meteorological Department forecasts a wet spell for the next two days in Jammu and Kashmir with the night temperature improving in the Union Territory on Monday. The harshest winter period of 40-days "Chilai-Kalan" ended on Sunday which is followed by Chilai-Khurd (Small winter) of 20- days which begins Monday with a weather forecast of rain or snow at scattered places and fairly widespread light rain and snow on February 3 in Jammu and Kashmir. Srinagar, the summer capital of Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.6 degree Celsius against the minus 2.3 degree Celsius recorded the previous night. The ski resort of Gulmarg in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 6.6 degree Celsius against minus 7.4 degree Celsius on the previous night. The temperature is 1.0 degree above normal for this time of the year. Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.8 degree Celsius against minus 3.2 degree Celsius on the previous night. Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.4 degree Celsius against minus 2.8 degree Celsius on the previous night. Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 4.8 degree Celsius against minus 7.0 degree Celsius on the last night. Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 0.6 degree Celsius against minus 2.4 degree Celsius on the previous night, the MeT office said. |
