Srinagar gunfight: Banihal-Baramulla rail suspended | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Mar 16: The Banihal-Baramulla rail was suspended on Wednesday as a precautionary measure amidst the gunfight at Nowgam area in the outskirts of Srinagar. The train service was suspended due to "apprehension of law and order problem" in Nowgam where the Srinagar station of the Banihal-Baramulla rail line is located, police said. The railway officials said, "In view of the encounter at Shankarpora falling under police station Nowgam Srinagar, there is apprehension of a law and order problem. Therefore the train services from Banihal to Baramulla and vice versa will remain suspended on Wednesday, as a precautionary measure". Security forces shot dead three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants in the gunfight in Nowgam area of Srinagar on Wednesday. On March 11 the authorities suspended services from Awantipora in Pulwama district to Anantnag after two militants were killed in Naina Batpora, the area in Pulwama district which falls in the vicinity of Parigam, where one of the railway stations in south Kashmir is located. |
