Education Deptt leaves 550 terminated RMSA teachers in lurch | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 16: Highly qualified youth appointed under the centrally sponsored Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) scheme are running from pillar to post to seek their reappointment in the Education Department. The contracts of these teachers were terminated after the outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020, but they were assured that once the schools reopen their contracts will be renewed. “The minimum qualification for RMSA teachers was fixed as MA (Bed) and most of us are post-graduates and PHD holders. We are 550 candidates and we were posted in far-flung areas,” the terminated RMSA teachers said. They said, ““We want the arrangement to continue on a yearly basis. We are not seeking any regularization.” “The schools where we were posted have become defunct due to our arrangement being terminated. Our posts are lying vacant but we don’t know what’s stopping the government from reappointing us,” they said. “On one hand the government is claiming that it’s providing employment to the youth but on the other we are being rendered jobless. The funds for our salaries are provided by the Centre despite that our contract is not being renewed,” they added. The youth, including young men and women, said that the unfortunate part is that no one is listening to us and we are moving from one door to another. Our passionate appeal to LG Sinha is to look into our case and allow us to continue our services,” they added. |
