Jammu Mayor asks people to make judicious use of water, electricity | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 2: Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor Jammu along with many others while addressing a press conference here today said that after the devolution of functions, functionaries & resources to the Urban Local bodies all the elected representatives in coordination with the concerned department are working tirelessly to provide best possible basic & development amenities to the citizens of Jammu in a transparent manner irrespective of any caste, creed or religion. The Mayor said that he is personally conducting extensive tours along with the others. The visitors visited water filtration plants at Sheetli (Nagrota), Dhountly (Panjtirthi), Borian (near Bahu Fort) as well as all the PHE pumping stations located in different wards of the city & keeping strict vigil on their working & trying hard in making them more functional & effective by providing dedicated electric feeders so that in case of electricity goes off, the water supply may not get interrupted. Besides this, solar panels will also be installed at Sheetli Filtration Plant on priority basis to make water supply position functional in any case during failure of electricity. He said that officers of Jal Shakti department have also been directed to make alternative arrangements for providing water supply through tankers where there is acute shortage of water and also keep check on the illegal water connections whether residential or commercial. The Mayor appealed to all the citizens of Jammu to use the water with more carefully, do not wash their vehicles at home by wasting water which is only meant for domestic use, try to stop the overflowing of water through tanks installed at the roof tops of their houses by installing float cock valve/ float ball valve or other requisite equipments and take other precautionary measures so that the water can be saved as much as possible during the ongoing summer season. He said that the power supply position has somehow been improved by getting additional 207 MW electricity from the government and the PDD has already issued a schedule of six hours power cuts by ensuring eighteen hours power supply in & around Jammu City. It is hoped that the water supply position will automatically get improved in coming days. He appealed to the public to adopt the habit of segregation of dry/ wet waste at their own level, handover the dry waste i.e. plastics, bottles, papers etc to the Junk dealer (Kabadi Wala) and cooperate with sanitation staff of JMC to keep their localities neat & clean. |
