A large number of health employees of all districts and blocks of Jammu division held massive protest demonstration. They shouted slogans in support of their demands. They alleged that the administrative department of health & family welfare has failed to frame rules of promotions and conduct a departmental promotion committee (promotions) of all categories in the health department, which has been pending for the last four years. The protesters said that several higher grade posts have been lying vacant in the department for many years including government hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu and government hospital Sarwal. So many health employees have retired without getting their promotion benefits and patients also suffered due to shortage of staff in health institutions. The salary of FMPH workers and other staff has been pending for the last five months and the employees and their families have been facing hardship and are on the verge of starvation, and many are not getting their treatment due to not being the released of their salary. The protesters urged the UT government should register left over government in service pharmacists under the new pharmacy Act 1948 section 32-C, which was implemented in UT after the abrogation of Article 370. They also demanded the restoration of the old pension scheme for all UT employees on the analogy of neighbouring states. The protesters gave 12 days ultimatum to the higher authorities of the health department and said if their demands are not met they will observe strike on May 24. |
