Chaos on roads as Srinagar pvt schools defy summer timings! | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 12: In brazen violation of norms, some of the private schools in Srinagar are defying the summer timings as announced by the government thereby triggering traffic jams at peak hours. As per the government order, all the schools in Srinagar were scheduled to operate from 8:00 AM to 2:00 from May 1. Till April 30, the schools would operate from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The school timings were revised to reduce traffic congestion at peak hours that would otherwise affect work at government offices in particular as people would get stuck in traffic jams. Interestingly, while schools in Jammu city open even early in the morning, the private schools in Srinagar look reluctant to change their timings to even 8:00 AM. “It seems that a section of private schools have no respect for the government orders that the rules are being openly defied for reasons better known to them,” said a parent. He said it was unfortunate that some schools don’t look interested in the popular saying “Early to bed and early rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” “Opening schools early in summers is a healthy habit, don’t know why these schools don’t want to behave healthy.” An official associated with the Traffic regulation said the defiance of the school timings was a major cause of traffic jams at peak hours. “The aim of making schools open early in the morning was the schoolchildren and the office goers both enjoy a hassle free travel, but these private schools seem to be an erring lot,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. The management of the schools which open late couldn’t be contacted for comments. When contacted a senior official said the matter would be looked into. Meanwhile the parents have appealed the Director School Education Kashmir to look into the matter. |
