Do justice with NoKs of victims

Ten labourers dying in Ramban tunnel collapse has put a question mark on the steps taken by the construction companies to safeguard the lives of labourers engaged in expansion work of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The tunnel collapse led to the death of ten labourers and their bodies were recovered after hectic rescue operations. Police have registered a case against the construction company that had engaged the labourers. The company is likely to face action and has to compensate the families of victims.
The tragic death of ten labourers has once again brought to fore the difficult conditions that these poor people work in. It’s unfortunate that the companies which engage them on daily basis are least bothered about the working conditions of these poor people. They are just engaged against the meager wages that are provided to them. Neither insurance is provided to them nor are they given any job security. The recent incident of tunnel collapse has brought to fore the need for developing a comprehensive policy to protect the lives of the daily wagers and labourers who are engaged by the government or even the private companies. If these people die while doing their work their family members are left to fend on their own.
The government needs to devise a comprehensive scheme for the labourers who are engaged by the private companies. They cannot be used and thrown. They need to be treated a humans and at par with other. Thousands of people work in an unorganized sector across J&K but without any job security. If they meet with an accident while performing their jobs they are not owned by anyone even the ones whom they work for. In developed counties the labourers who perform difficult jobs and are involved in any sort of hazardous work are provided with a comprehensive insurance cover but in India the private companies have failed to come up with any major scheme to take care of the concern of poor labour class. In J&K many development projects are underway and thousands of people are working in these to eke out their living Ramban incident, which the authorities ruled out was a tunnel collapse and said that tragedy occurred due to mouth of the tunnel getting blocked after landslide struck, in any way is a tragedy. Such incidents can be prevented if proper measures are taken.
