Early Times Report JAMMU, May 23: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kishtwar, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu today conducted one day farmer Training Programme on Organic Farming at Village Matta of the District under the guidance of Dr JP Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST Jammu. The training programme was attended by 30 farmers and farmwomen of the village. Dr Narinder Paul incharge scientist KVK Kishtwar organized the programme under the supervision of Dr SK Gupta Director Extension SKUAST Jammu. While speaking during the programme Dr Narinder Paul reiterated that for healthy food, healthy soil and healthy environment the need of the hour to focus on organic farming. During the programme, farmers were educated about crop rotations, use of crop residues, animal manures, vermicompost, organic manures, legumes, green manures, biofertilizers, preparation and use of organic nutrient sources for plant nutrition and plant-based extracts including neem oil for management of pests and diseases and other organic farming practices. An interactive session was held at the end of the programme in which the participants cleared their apprehensions about organic farming. Vegetable seed kits were also distributed among the participants for organic production of vegetables for household nutrition security. Nek Raj, Puran Chand, Safiq Ahmad, Mohammad Ali Seema Butyal Kirna Devi, Girdhari Lal, Pardeep Kumar and others farmers of village Matta participated in the programme. |
