Amid targeted killings KP's threaten mass migration
6/2/2022 10:14:15 PM

eARLY tIMES rEPORT

Srinagar, June 2: With no end to targeted killings, the Kashmiri pandits staying in Kashmir valley under the PM’s package have threatened to migrate en masse from the valley, it was reported on Thursday.
The fresh warning by Pandits came hours after a non-Kasmiri bank manager who had just taken charge was shot dead by militants.
“To save ourselves is the uttermost priority at present,” a group of KP’s staying at Mattan migrant camp in Anantnag district said
“They said when we left Kashmir valley in the 90's we never saw that we were leaving out properties worth crores behind, we just moved out to save ourselves”, they told media persons at Mattan Migrant camp on Thursday.
They alleged that the government is not taking appropriate measures for them and therefore they have decided to move away from here.
“There was only one demand from ourselves for relocation until the situation improves which the authorities are not looking into”, they said.
The group also alleged that the situation has become worse now and there is no other way but to move out of this place to save our lives.
“See how our Hindu brothers are being killed here. Who will give us a guarantee of being safe in Kashmir”, they said and added “not a single tweet came from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to condemn the killing of Kashmiri Pandits and Hindus”. “We are moving out of here…doing mass migration”, they added.
Another group of Kashmiri Pandits called off their over two week long agitation in the Kashmir valley and threatened mass migration from Friday.
The authorities have stepped up the security around the transit camps of Kashmiri Pandits.
However, the authorities here are denying any migration has happened.
Srinagar Airport also denied that there is any rush of minority communities at the Srinagar airport migrating from Kashmir valley.
“We strongly rebut this sensational rumor mongering We handle between 16 thousand to 18 thousand passengers everyday. Today also the number of passengers is average. There is no heavy rush of people from the minority community as rumored by this tweet. Please do not spread rumors like this”, a tweet from the Srinagar Airport authorities said.
There have been 18 targeted killings in Kashmiri valley of Pandits, non locals, off duty police men and Panchayat representatives during this year so far.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K spokesman Altaf Thakur Thursday urged the LG Manoj Sinha led administration to take strict action against what it called spreading false and fake rumours about minority community members fleeing Kashmir.
In a statement issued here, Thakur said that some elements are not happy with the prevailing peace in Kashmir and are trying to spread fear by projecting the recent target killings in a wrong way.
“These elements are spreading false and fake news on social media and other platforms about minority community members fleeing Kashmir,” he said.
Srinagar has already cleared that given the large number of tourist arrivals, they are witnessing 16,000 to 18,000 passengers on daily basis and that there was no additional rush of minorities leaving the Valley.
Thakur urged the LG administration and security agencies to act against the persons spreading fake news on social media and other platforms and book them under the relevant sections of law. He said that the government and the Kashmiri community stands with the Kashmiri Pandits and other minorities in this hour of challenge and we will not allow nefarious designs to succeed.
J&K government is trying to cool down tempers and has been assuring the Kashmiri Pandits and other members of the minority community of proper security.
